Oct. 16-20

8th grade: We have had several guest speakers in the last week. Thanks to Mr. Snead from the Cobb County Health and Nutrition Department who taught us about energy conversions, and Mr. Tiko Jones from Cobb EMC who gave an "electrifying" presentation about electricity and electrical safety. One of his interns, Miss Lewis, will be researching data provided by our student responses to the presentation. Real Life experiences are the best in PBL!

This week we will be starting a new question: "Do I have "The Right Stuff" for Mars Exploration?

Students will examine different viewpoints regarding the exploration of Mars, and begin planning a "mission" that has to balance a budget of $250,000,000 with the science objectives for the mission, and power and mass of the rocket. There will be engineering designs and prototype challenges to come...

7th grade: We are continuing to participate in an online discussion with other students around the country in response to a lesson with a Neurologist. Students are also watching videos on brain injuries, and exploring the medical symptoms in a game format. Be looking for information on a green sheet about the movie that students will watch in class. (Concussion, starring Will Smith). The form is an "opt-out" form, so it only needs to be returned if the student will not be allowed to watch it.
