Sept. 5-8

8th Grade-- click here to check out our CSI photos! Some of our students were willing to step up as "lawyers" as we debated the case of The People vs. Mr. Potatohead with the evidence they discovered through their testing.

Tues.--Students were introduced to their new PBL "The Chemistry of Baking". They will be researching how chemistry impacts baking, especially through physical and chemical properties and changes. They will be baking two versions of the same recipe, with one ingredient omitted. The taste test event is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 21, or Friday Sept. 22. Students will sign up for one of those days.

Wed.--Students started researching recipes. They will print off two of their favorites, and choose one that will should be approved by parent or guardian. Click here for the document that was sent home with them today.

Thursday--Chemical changes notes with demonstrations

Friday--Research on essential elements of baking, and kitchen chemistry

7th grade--

Tuesday--finish up the design challenge: Last week, students were given a design challenge for 3 different school related organizations that need T-Shirts. They discovered the needs of the "clients", and chose one of the organizations to design for. The top 3 designs in each class will be presented to our clients. (Pitner's Science Olympiad team, Palmer--for the Mission Statement, and Palmer's Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl group). The groups will then choose their favorite, and T-Shirts will be manufactured by Simply Us Creations. We have had a lot of problem solving through this activity--especially in dealing with the technical difficulties. Authentic learning in action!

Wednesday- we will start a new PBL unit as we learn about biomes. We will start with a fun interactive adventure!

Thursday--we will go outside for a scavenger hunt on Thursday--you don't want to be absent!

Friday--we will be on testing schedule, and there will be no 7th period classes for 7th grade.
